Hi, I am travelling to London this month for a 2 week stay on a work related trip, and i needed suggestion on which mode of transportation is most common in London. I heard people mostly use buses, but taxis are faster and hassle free. Please tell me your opinion.

The most common mode of transportation in London is: personal car, underground (subway), bus, taxi, bicycle, and walking.

If your transportation is company paid, then by all mean, take the taxi, especially if you're not used to navigating public transit.

The most economic and quickest way from the airport into London is via the underground.
The underground will take you very close to most places in London. You can walk the rest of the way. The pricing is not too high, and is priced by zones. I recommend buying a 1-zone travelcard (L7 for 1 day, L29 for 7)so you can ride both the underground and public bus as much as you want for the day.

In my opinion tubes are the best means of travelling in London. Even if your travelling will be paid by company you should rather not use taxi, because at working hours, London roads can be very busy and the last thing you would want is to find yourself stuck up in traffic. Get yourself an Oyster card for the tubes. A 7-day plan would work out best for you.

Tube (subway) can get you everywhere in London. I've heard people say they prefer buses because then you can see everything along the way, but I never tried - bus systems are harder to navigate than subways. Also, the main areas of London are very walkable, always my favorite method of transit while travelling!

For some people bus is a much better option. I, for instance, am claustrophobic to closed environments, so instead of dying in the tubes due to claustrophobia i spend a few more minutes in travelling and use buses. And i have to admit the view is also very nice. You should try it some time.

I have got to agree with raddy. Even though I am not claustrophobic or something, but i like to see the views on the way. And the the time difference of the bus and tube is not as much as some people might be describing here.
